It begins at the far right: Nice, on the 30th of May, and the long drive west. The mas is at Mouriès, in the Alpilles — with Les Baux and its quarry just above it, and Lançon, where she was born, forty minutes east across the plain. That small country is the whole of Part One. Then the road back along the coast to Cannes and Antibes, which is Part Two.Tout commence à droite : Nice, le 30 mai, puis la longue route vers l’ouest. Le mas est à Mouriès, dans les Alpilles — avec Les Baux et sa carrière juste au-dessus, et Lançon, où elle est née, à quarante minutes à l’est par la plaine. Ce petit pays-là, c’est toute la première partie. Ensuite la route reprend vers la côte, jusqu’à Cannes et Antibes : la deuxième partie.
